A large Hampshire estate bought 4 high index Ram Lambs, (All above 275 index) in the millenium year (2000).
The estate run 15 rams on a flock of 530 ewes. 1/3 were texel rams. 226 lambs were sold at the end of June. 216 of these lambs were suffolk sired. 80% of the lambs were by the high index rams. The sheperd took the weigher with him when checking the lambs at 6 weeks. He was laughed at by the rest of the farm staff. He found some lambs weighing 32kg.
The shepherd on Lord Portsmouth's estate sold lambs at the age of 9 weeks old at 38/40kg, with a high proportion being at the best grades.
